Rodeo Dedication 2002

September 6, 2002

Ladies and Gentlemen:

On behalf of the membership of the Atlantic States Gay Rodeo Association, I would like to welcome you to Atlantic Stampede 2002! Rodeo is a uniquely American sport whose roots lie in America's infancy. It is a celebration of the skills that men and women needed to survive as our nation expanded westward towards the Pacific. It is a celebration of the relationship between horse and rider; a commemoration of the dependencies between man and animal. Rodeo places men and women on equal footing and recognizes that success is not an issue of gender but rather one of discipline and dedication. It likewise makes no distinction regarding race, creed, national origin or sexual orientation. Rodeo expresses the principles of freedom and equality that are the foundation of our great nation.

The Atlantic States Gay Rodeo Association dedicates Atlantic Stampede 2002 to the memory of the men and women who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks. It is our small way of honoring their sacrifice and extending heartfelt condolences to friends and families. We also gratefully acknowledge the ongoing sacrifices of Americans at home and abroad who labor both to keep us safe and to extend the blessings of freedom and equality to men and women everywhere.

Gaither F. Pennington, II, President
Atlantic States Gay Rodeo Association
